The Tempest arriving at
Ijmuiden recently towing a barge, photographed by the
enthusiastic Jan Plug, who sends out photos when he is
on leave, because
his ship is languishing in port, recovering from a serious fire. My question is - could there ever be a better tug design than this? Back in my youth when I was an anchor-handler master I was sent out to help rescue the semi-submersible Pentagone 84 which had lost two moorings in extreme weather. When I got there this ship was already on the scene, on the tow wire, holding the rig in place despite being frequently immersed in mountainous seas. Amazing stuff.
