PICTURE OF THE DAY 2013

Photographs of offshore support vessels in action in many parts of the world. 

Another photo from Brazil. Jan Plug's ever active camera has captured this interesting photo of the FSO Avare, with the anchor-handler William C O'Malley connected to the stern, and the BOS Turmalina apparently connected to the bow. You will note that ship is moored bow and stern by chains, and according to an article I read, the moorings used are torpedo anchors. One wonders whether the need to connect two ships to the thing in adverse weather is as a result of the inadequacy of the mooring system. Maybe another example of to pioneering approach taken by Petrobras to offshore operations.
