More from Malta! Just for once this is a thumbnail, so for the full size photo click on it. It is the Noble Homer Ferrington alongside in the Grand Harbour. This rig embodies many of the most quirky aspects of the semi-submersible hence the opportunity to see it at full size. In its original form this rig could drill in about 1000 ft of water. It had six columns and in port you could see the pontoons. Now the forward and centre columns have had blisters added, and there are two extra columns aft - to keep the stern up. But all this extra steel results in it virtually being stuck at drilling draft- although not quite. Now it has combination moorings and each winch has a great big reel of wire handy.
