PICTURE OF THE DAY 2015

Photographs of offshore support vessels in action in many parts of the world. 

I was going through the many rig photos people have been good enough to send me yesterday and I found this taken by Tony Poll back in 2003 from the Bridge of the Maersk Helper. The ship is tied up stern too to the West Alliance (Now SKD Alliance) which is a tender support semi-submersible. This is a rig which skids the derrick onto a platform. It is becoming more and more uncommon for ships to tie up and in this case, very unusually, using its own ropes.
