PICTURE OF THE DAY 2012

Photographs of offshore support vessels in action in many parts of the world. 

Apparently Sunderland, your compiler's birthplace, is becoming the centre of the world as far as the windmill installers are concerned, and one of the vessels involved is the Acergy Petrel, seen here turning sharp right at the end of the breakwater, photographed by Pat McCardle. Pat is a shipmaster himself (Correction - he says he is a "lowly" Chief Mate), and one wonders whether he was prompted to take the picture by the lack of caution evident in the ship's passage plan.
