PICTURE OF THE DAY 2012

Photographs of offshore support vessels in action in many parts of the world. 

Once upon a time this fine vessel, now the Vladimir Ignatyuk, was the most powerful offshore vessel in the world. That was in 1982 when it was the Beaudril ship the Kalvik. It had, and maybe still has, 23,200 bhp available from its four Stork Werkspoor engines. The photograph was taken in March in Port Nelson New Zealand by Andrew Ward who says that it had just returned from icebreaking in the Antarctic for the US government.
