PICTURE OF THE DAY 2012

Photographs of offshore support vessels in action in many parts of the world. 

It's the reel thing! It took the owners of the original Apache to realise that "small" pipes, up to about 12" in diameter can be wound onto a reel, transported at high speed in a ship shaped vessel, and then unwound on the  location with a minimum of problems. Here is the Apache II loading pipe in Invergordon last summer, captured by Alistair Moerton.
